ICD-10
ICD-10 Diagnostic Code
By means of the ICD-10 diagnostic code, health professionals encode the diagnoses of their patients to define diseases uniformly. The ICD classification is used worldwide. The coding by the abbreviation ICD was created in 1992 by the World Health Organization. ICD stands for International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems. The number 10 denotes the 10th Version.
The ICD-10 code consists of four digits. The first three places (the letter and a two-digit number) encode the respective main category, the fourth place (a one-digit number) usually encodes the place where the disease has occurred, or any other further qualification.
Frequently, there are several variants for the encryption of tumours after the ICD-10, which dealt with both by the individual characteristics of the tumour as well as the usual practice of the treating hospital. In the list below, the main codes for tumours of the central nervous system are shown.
