Neurosurgery
Surgical removal of brain tumours
Neurosurgery comprises diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases, malformations and injuries of the central nervous system.
When a brain tumour is suspected, there are several methods of diagnosis available. Especially imaging techniques (computer- and magnetic resonance tomography) are best practices. Furthermore, there are other additional examinations (e.g. of cerebrospinal fluid and blood) that can be performed. To backup the diagnosis, samples can be taken (biopsy).
Depending on the tumour´s location and size and the patient´s condition and symptoms, the brain tumour can be surgically removed. The exact location of the tumour can be determined by diagnostic methods, such as MRI, CT, monitoring and navigated brain stimulation.
